Fire cider—an herbal tonic—is a traditional remedy that stimulates digestion and supports respiratory wellness. As an immunity booster, it’s also helpful for warding off colds and flu during colder months. Fire cider is the perfect fall tonic that connects us to traditional practices originally developed by BIPOC communities. On Saturday, October 22, NYBG’s Humanities Institute partners with Taqwa Community Farm in the Bronx to offer a free community workshop. We will be using accessible household ingredients such as garlic, ginger, onion, pepper, turmeric root, horseradish root, lemon, honey, apple cider vinegar, and herbs provided by Taqwa Community Farm to make this warming remedy to prepare us for the months ahead.
Participants will have the opportunity to make their own fire cider.
